Hi, Welcome to my ePortfolio. This is an accumulation of all my writings for the Fall 2019 FIQWS class. Before starting the class I had little to no confidence in my writing skill but by the end, I was able to learn new skills to better my writing. The main skill that helps me organize my writing is Rhectial Situations. This consists of five keys points to keep my writings as narrow and organized as possible. These points are Audience, Purpose, Exigence, Stance, and Genre. The Audience point helps identify the audience other than the professors and peer that will read the writing piece. The Purpose helps me ask myself the question of why are you writing this and what are you trying to convey to the reader? The Exigence also allows me to ask myself questions like what is the motivation behind this writing piece. The Stance helps me understand my position and the tone of my writing. Identifying the genre helps me to stay focus on one category of writing instead of being all over the place.
Usually, when I was given a writing assignment, I began to write the essay but while I was writing would also edit. I found that this way of writing actually hindered my ability to create a good piece. After finishing a few sentences would go back and edit then lose my train of thought for the next few sentences. Since I realized that, my whole process of writing change. Before actually writing the paper, I would answer all the Rhectial Situations key points. Then from the Rhectial Situations, I create an outline. The outline contained bullet points of the information that would be included in each paragraph. From there, I begin writing. I start with the body paragraphs. The body paragraphs are specific so from writing specify on my topic I could write generally about my topic in the introduction. After the body paragraph and introduction is complete, i work on the conclusion. Then when the draft of the essay is done, I take a break from the assignment for my peers or writing counselor to read my work. Any form feedback they give is taken into consideration and corrected for my final version. This is the writing process that I learned throughout the semester that will father my writing, to help me gain confidence in my work.
